Summer Isn't Ruining Your Progress
Every summer it happens, and all of this might already be happening to you! Take a deep breath and know you are not alone! The kids are out of school, and vacations are starting to fill up the calendar. Your weekends are already full with graduation parties, cookouts, lake days, weddings, or family/friends gatherings. All of this, of course, is something to celebrate! Yay for living life to the fullest!
However, before you know it, the routine that felt so solid a few months, maybe even weeks ago, is starting to feel a little chaotic, maybe even impossible to maintain. And then comes the thought that gets a lot of people in trouble:
"I will get back on track when things slow down."
I get it, I really do. Summer is so busy, and life is happening fast. And I hope you are out there making memories, spending time with people you love, and enjoying the season! But here is what I want you to know...What I really need you to slow down and read...
Summer is NOT ruining your progress:
The double cheeseburger is not ruining your progress
The waffle cone is not ruining your progress
The vacation is not ruining your progress
That one missed workout is not ruining your progress
One crazy weekend also does not ruin your progress
What hurts most of our progress is when one choice becomes an excuse to stop making good choices altogether. For example... You eat a large waffle cone, then you miss a workout, then you miss a week at the gym. You then go on vacation and spend the next month telling yourself that you will get serious later...once summer is over. Or you have a one-off meal with food and then decide that your entire day is ruined.
Does any of this sound familiar? We have all been there, and maybe you are here right now.
The truth is the healthiest people I know, who I look up to, are not perfect, not even close. They don't avoid every cookout, and they don't skip dessert at every family gathering. They definitely don't spend their entire summer stressing about every single choice. But here is what they do really well: THEY COME BACK. AGAIN AND AGAIN.
They come back after vacation, after a busy week, after that one late night, after the big ice cream cone, after the holiday weekend. They don't let one choice turn into an entire season.
At Fort Fitness, we're not looking for perfection; we are looking for consistency. In the summer, consistency might look different than it does in February.
Maybe your workouts aren't as frequent. Maybe your meal schedule isn't as structured. Maybe life feels a little more unpredictable. That's okay. The goal isn't perfection. The goal is staying connected to the habits that make you feel your best.
So this summer, instead of asking: "How do I stay perfect?" Ask: "What's the next best choice?"
Maybe it's getting protein at breakfast.
Maybe it's drinking another bottle of water.
Maybe it's getting a walk in after dinner.
Maybe it's coming back to the gym tomorrow instead of waiting until Monday.
Small choices.Repeated consistently. That's what keeps progress moving forward.
THINGS TO TRY THIS WEEK:
The next time your routine gets thrown off, don't focus on what you missed; focus on what's next. Ask yourself: "What's one thing I can do today that supports my health?" Then do that. Not because it's perfect. Because it's progress.
And if nutrition is the piece you're struggling with right now, you're not alone. Most people don't need another diet. They need a plan that fits their actual life. If you're looking for guidance, accountability, or simply a place to start, reach out to us at Fort Fitness. We're here to help you build habits that work in the real world, not just when life is easy, because your health shouldn't have to wait until summer is over.
