The Real Reason Our Training Works for Your Goals

Why We Train CrossFit at Fort Fitness

Over the past 11 years of coaching, I’ve been asked this question many times: “Why CrossFit?” The answer is simple and it thoroughly excites me to coach, and develop programming for each cycle, and each week of training at The Fort! Answer - Because the CrossFit methodology works for you, your Grandpa, for the ex-pro athlete, and the athlete just beginning again. And we can prove it! At Fort Fitness, our aim isn’t to specialize in just one area of fitness. Our aim is to improve broad, general, and inclusive fitness, the kind of fitness that makes you healthier, stronger, more capable, and more confident in life.

The CrossFit methodology is built on evidence and observation. Over decades, coaches and athletes have tested what works and measured the results. With the foundation in effective nutrition habits, a supportive community, and camaraderie, you have a model that consistently produces incredible results time after time.

How is this possible? Inclusivity.

The Power of Inclusive Strength and Conditioning

Many fitness programs focus on just one or two areas: strength, HIIT, conditioning, or mobility.

CrossFit effectively trains all of it.

The methodology is designed to develop ten general physical skills that together represent true fitness:

  • Cardiovascular endurance

  • Stamina

  • Strength

  • Flexibility

  • Power

  • Speed

  • Coordination

  • Agility

  • Balance

  • Accuracy

Because we train across all these areas, something incredible happens.

You experience early progress and also long-term progress.

This is why new members often feel improvements in the first few weeks, and why athletes a decade into CrossFit are still setting personal records. When training is balanced and comprehensive, there is always another level to reach.

Inclusive Strength Training

At Fort Fitness, we use the best of both worlds when it comes to strength: gymnastics and weightlifting.

That means we train both:

  • Bodyweight strength (push-ups, pull-ups, handstands, single-leg work)

  • External load strength (barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells)

Why both?

Because true strength is the ability to control your body through space and move external loads with power and stability.

Our goal is to develop well-rounded athletes. That might look like:

  • Performing a strict handstand push-up

  • Bench pressing your bodyweight

  • Completing a controlled single-leg squat

  • Squatting double your bodyweight

Training across these domains builds a strong, balanced body. It also exposes weaknesses and improves them reducing injury risk and preventing plateaus. Gymnastics strengthens your joints and control. Weightlifting develops power and raw strength. Together, they help athletes continue progressing year after year.

Inclusive Metabolic Conditioning

Then there’s the part of class that gets the room buzzing: metabolic conditioning, or “metcons.”

Simply put, we want you to have horsepower.

Your body has three primary energy systems, three different ways to produce energy:

  • Anaerobic power (think a 40-yard sprint)

  • Glycolytic power (think an 800-meter run)

  • Aerobic endurance (think a mile or longer effort)

Each system supports the others, and each provides unique health and performance benefits.

If someone can squat double their bodyweight and perform 30 push-ups but struggles to run a 7 minute mile, there’s a clear gap in overall fitness. CrossFit closes those gaps.

That’s why our training includes a wide variety of movements and time domains. One day might feel like a sprint. Another might challenge your pacing and endurance.

This intentional variety keeps training fresh and exciting but more importantly, it develops real fitness. The kind that prepares you for anything life throws your way.

The Bigger Picture

You want results and the formula for continued results is actually simple:

Eat enough lean meats and vegetables.Train an inclusive fitness regimen consistently.Sleep well.Surround yourself with a community that has your back and pushes you forward.

Repeat.

Do that long enough, and incredible things happen. You get stronger. Your engine improves. You move better. You gain confidence inside and outside of the gym. And you build the physical foundation to live a strong, capable, and long life!
